  Out of Filament Mid Print
Posted by: Matthew - 01-24-2025, 08:21 PM - Forum: Filaments and Resins - No Replies

One of the most irritating aspects of running a print especially those longer prints.  This frustration can be worse if you don't have a particular filament to replace it with to keep the print moving.

What is your response?  Do you run a spool of filament dry before changing it out?  Do you keep more than one of each type?  How do you address this when you are printing?

  What File Are You Printing?
Posted by: Matthew - 01-20-2025, 09:44 PM - Forum: Print and File Share - No Replies

Share with us a link to the file you are currently printing.  Why did you choose this print?  Is it for fun, for a function, or for another reason?

I'll start - I'm currently printing the Rugged Drawer System - Gridfinity by K2_Kevin in ISanMate Translucent pink because my daughter wanted matching drawers for her toys.  I've made several of these for my own desk and they are a wonderful for organization.  You can find this print on Bambu Labs Handy App or through the Bambu Labs slicer.

  Alecs_Form's Twisted Vase w/ Strands
Posted by: Matthew - 01-20-2025, 09:35 PM - Forum: Print and File Share - No Replies

My wife is into 3D printed vases.  We found Alecs_Form's Twisted Vase with Strands STL file on Thingiverse and thought it would be a fun print.  The overall print took several hours due to the intricacies in the threading.  However, the file bridged these single extrusion lines beautifully without needing any adjustments to the STL file.

Printed on: Bambu Labs P1S, Textured Plate
Filament: iSanMate Glitter Sky Blue PLA (found on Amazon)
No supports

Unfortunately, we gifted the finalized product.  The TimeLapse video was posted on YouTube and can be watched below:

What do you think about this design?  What colors would it look good in?

  Print Settings
Posted by: Matthew - 01-19-2025, 02:56 PM - Forum: Filaments and Resins - No Replies

For many, identifying appropriate print settings can be frustrating.  Many printer companies provide handy lists to help identify what settings to use for each filament typing.

PRUSA - https://help.prusa3d.com/materials
Bambu Labs - https://bambulab.com/en/filament-guide

Have you found success with these settings?  If not, what are some errors you've experienced?  Are there other resources you use to help you identify issues and troubleshoot solutions?

  Your 3D Printing Journey?
Posted by: Matthew - 01-19-2025, 02:50 PM - Forum: Aspiring 3D Printers - No Replies

All of us find hobbies that resonate with us.  There is usually a story for how one finds their hobby.  How did you come to enjoy 3D Printing?

I'll start - An old mentor of mine talked about 3D Printing a few years ago.  He had a Creality ENder 3 that caused him great joy and sorrow (IYKYK).  An RA I supervised did a program where he 3D printed Pokeballs for his residents.  I thought this was incredibly cool and loved the fact that he had 30 residents show up to this program.  I began researching 3D Printing and bought a Creality Ender 3.  After some time, I enjoyed tinkering but wanted a smoother experience.  I upgraded to my Bambu Labs P1S and not print everything from toys to functional items like a SKADIS wall set up.

  Preferred Filament Types?
Posted by: Matthew - 01-19-2025, 02:19 PM - Forum: Filaments and Resins - No Replies

There are different filament types out there and it can be daunting trying to figure out what type of filament to use for what project.  For instance, do I need the strength of PETG because I'm making a fidget toy with a moveable piece?  Will PLA suffice since the vase is strictly decorative?  Do I want PETG for this vase because of the translucence tendencies?  Do I want to make a pair of Crocs that need a bit of flex so I will need TPU?

Waylinl posted this article on some suggestions for which filament to use with each filament type - https://qidi3d.com/blogs/news/3d-printer...lete-guide

What types of filament do you prefer to use and why?  Is the above article accurate for your personal uses?

  Favorite Filament Brand?
Posted by: Matthew - 01-19-2025, 02:10 PM - Forum: Filaments and Resins - No Replies

There are so many brands of filament out there that all have something to offer.  Between different types of filament, colors, spool sizes, spool types, etc., I want to know your favorite brands and why you choose those brands.

I'll start - I love the Bambu filaments.  The RFID tag that auto selects settings is super handy.  I enjoy their bulk pricing and their color choices.  I also enjoy Creality brand filament for its cheap, single purchase capabilities.  Flashforge also seems to have consistent quality and some pretty cool colors.

What about you?

  Best Advice for Aspiring Printers?
Posted by: Matthew - 01-19-2025, 02:04 PM - Forum: Aspiring 3D Printers - No Replies

Looking back on your print journey, what is the singular best piece of advice you could offer someone who is looking to jump into printing?

I'll start - You do NOT have to be experienced in 3D Modeling.  There are so many files out there on websites like Thingverse, Cults3D, Bambu Labs, etc. that you just need to be able to "slice" a file and hit print.  Some printers even come with pre-made files to get you oriented to the hobby!
